5 Signs You Need A Roofing Repair

Have you ever looked up at your roof and wondered how long it’s been since you’ve had it replaced or repaired? If you have, then you aren’t alone. Most people never think about an issue until they face it. However, when it comes to your roof, it’s essential to be proactive and not wait until there is a problem.

Your roof is the most important part of your house; it protects you and your family from the elements. You must make repairs when needed to have your roof in top shape. In this blog, you’ll see signs that it might be time to replace your roof. Remember that these are only some signs; if you have any concerns, it’s always best to contact local roofing companies for a consultation. So, let’s get started!

According to U.S News & World Report, a roof can last between 15 and 30 years. It all depends on the type of roof, the quality of the installation, and how well it’s been maintained over the years. Furthermore,  the average lifespan of different roofing materials is as follows:

  • Asphalt shingles – 20 to 30 years,
  • Wood shakes – 20 to 30 years,
  • Metal roofs – 50+ years,
  • Tile roofs – 50+ years.

Now that we have stated when a roof is in good shape, let’s move on to the signs you must watch out for that you need a roof repair!

How Can You Tell When Your Roof Needs A Repair?

There is not one sign that is a definitive answer to whether you need a roof repair or replacement. However, some general indications show that it might be time for a check-up; here  are some of them:

1) Missing or broken shingles:  If you notice that shingles are missing from your roof or are damaged, it’s time for a repair. Shingles can become loose due to severe weather conditions such as high winds, hail, and rain. If you live in an area with extreme weather conditions, checking your roof regularly for any damage is important.

 2) Leaks or water damage inside your home:  If you notice any leaks or water damage, it could signify that your roof needs to be repaired or replaced. Water damage can cause mold and mildew to grow, which is a health hazard.

 3) Moss or algae growth on your roof: Moss and algae can cause the shingles to rot and eventually break down.  If you notice any growth, it’s important to have it removed as soon as possible.

4) Damaged flashing around vents or chimneys:   The flashing is the metal strip used to seal the area around vents and chimneys. If the flashing is damaged, it can cause leaks and damage to the structure of your home.

5) Sagging or buckling rafters: If you have rafters that are sagging or buckling, it’s a sign that your roof needs some repair work. These rafters cannot support the roof’s weight and must be replaced.

Now that you know the signs that you need a roof repair, it’s time to look for local roofing companies and choose the best one.
